A new way to pay for parking will be available across Dundee, as the award-winning JustPark cashless parking payment platform is introduced.

Using the JustPark app, you will now be able to pay for parking in any on-street bay or Dundee City Council pay-and-display car park.

The new cashless payment system which launched on April 1st, is cheaper and will gradually introduce innovations such as predictive availability of parking spaces and real time discovery of spaces. Five more trials will be developed over the next year, including a scheme which encourages drivers to park in different areas through incentives from local shops, pre booking and dynamic and emission-based pricing.

The project is the first to be launched from The MILL – The Mobility Innovation Living Lab – which is run by Urban Foresight and Dundee City Council. The MILL is an initiative which creates a testbed for companies to trial new innovations in Dundee. The MILL is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Programme, named ‘Scotland’s 8th City’.

JustPark currently works with over 15 local authorities. Using its award-winning platform, customers can search, reserve and pay for a booking in as little as 30 seconds using the JustPark app, IVR/SMS payments or via a desktop/mobile web browser.

There will be a crossover period when current RingGo service can still be used, but the JustPark app will be cheaper and easier to use – it’s the highest rated car parking payment app in the UK, with an average satisfaction rating of 96% and has 2.5 million users across the country.

Mark Flynn, deputy convener of Dundee City Council’s city development committee, said: “As a forward looking, ambitious council I am pleased to see that some of the great ideas that we have been introduced to on paper are starting to be delivered on the ground.”

Paul Blakeman, Head of Innovation at Urban Foresight says, “This service and the innovations to be trialled over the next year will make it easier for residents and visitors to get around the city.”

Speaking ahead of the Dundee rollout, JustPark Sales Director Gavin Manger, said: “We’re excited to bring our expertise and technology to Dundee as an Innovation Pilot Partner. Supported by our cutting-edge parking-payment solutions, Dundee will have one of the most sophisticated, easy to use and “smart” parking services anywhere in the world.”
